After reading Anne Lamott's piece I know have an understanding about not really worrying about the first draft. I thought that Lamott had made great points in her piece, 'Shitty First Drafts'. Honestly, I am part of the initiated who assumed that writers automatically knew what their story or essay would be about; and that they did not need to write a draft. However, after reading this article, I now believe that writing a shitty draft is well needed. Not only are you pulling out random ideas, because the first draft is shitty for a reason. But, you're also going to end up grabbing at least one thing from the draft that you wrote mindlessly. Like, Lamott said, " Almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts."
